The pro-life committee undertakes a number of projects that focus on the right to life from conception to natural death. In October, we organize and promote the annual Life Chain event which occurs on the first Sunday of October. It’s peaceful, prayerful way to show one’s opposition to the Culture of Death. In January, we work with Springfield Right to Life to collect signatures for the annual Signature Ad in the State Journal-Register which is taken out on the Monday closest to the anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in all 50 states. We also help to organize the March for Life to Washington D.C. for the 8th grade students which is coordinated through the Diocesan Office for Youth and Young Adult ministries. During Lent, we participate in a peaceful prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood during 40 Days for Life. Fr. Joe picks a day that he can participate and we put the word out via the website and bulletin. We also write a weekly “Pro-life corner” which appears in the bulletin throughout the year. We encourage parishioners to attend rallies sponsored by Springfield Right to Life or the Diocesan Office for Pro-Life and Special Ministries. If you are interested in joining the pro-life committee and helping us to speak out for those who have no voice, please contact Claudia Connelly (see contact info below).
