VBS 2020 Cancellation

Dear CTK  Parishioners and Families,

I am writing this email with a heavy heart. I am sorry to say that we will be canceling Vacation Bible School this year. With the Governor's stay at home order and the unknown of when schools will reopen. This decision had to be made. We have an awesome team of volunteers  and students but many of these “vulnerable” volunteers and students should not and could not volunteer under current conditions.

Based on the guidelines for re-opening, we would need to basically run several smaller VBS sessions simultaneously which we don’t have the manpower or space to do. Holding VBS would also place a burden on our volunteers and maintenance staff to ensure that facilities are properly sanitized each day. Pushing VBS further back will also begin to interfere with work being done to prepare the school for the (hopeful) start of the 2020/21 year.

Group Publishing is offering a virtual VBS, but in talking to a few parents, they would not participate in another “e-learning” situation voluntarily. They also don’t send their children to VBS because they feel like the kids need religious instruction (yay to our school and PSR program!) - they do it because the kids enjoy it and it gets them out of the house. I will post the information about the virtual offerings if parents want to take advantage of this.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out. My email is [email protected]

Thank you,

Amanda Workman

It comes as no surprise that VBS would be cancelled. I enjoyed volunteering last summer and look forward, God willing, to do so in 2021. You have done an excellent job as the leader and I hope you will be back in 2021 also.
