Pastor's Pen - Feb. 9
We are in the middle of National Marriage Week (February 7-14) and today is World Marriage Day. Check out http://www.foryourmarriage.org/celebrate-national-marriage-week-usa/ The annual observance of National Marriage Week in the United States encourages a conversation on how strong marriages promote and sustain strong societies by curtailing poverty and benefiting children.
Listen to the podcast series “Made for Love” at the USCCB website http://www.marriageuniqueforareason.org/category/made-for-love-podcast/
The website www.nationalmarriageweekusa.org offers helpful ideas for building up your own marriage, recommended reading, supporting marriage in the community and much more. There’s also a listing of marriage-building events throughout the country.
This week the school board begins the process to write a new Long Range Plan for the school. Over the next few months, along with the board and Mrs. Fahey and me, other stakeholders to include some faculty, parents, grandparents, and a few others, will be meeting to assess where we need to take our school in the next 5 years. The last plan, written in 2015 has served us well. That’s what prompted us to grow our preschool to over 100 students. Please pray for us, and later in the Spring you will be able to review the plan.
At the same time the Pastoral Council is going through a process with me to assess the key ministries in the parish, what is strong, what needs to be strengthened, and what needs to be jettisoned. We last did this in 2015. The process will conclude with setting new priorities for the next 3-5 years. The other piece in this mix is the information from the Listening Campaign. Your input will help us set things going forward.
Looking ahead to Ash Wednesday, February 26, collect your old, blessed palm branches from last year’s Palm Sunday, and bring to the church. As is my custom, I will meet with the 6th grade students the Monday before to burn the branches, making ashes to be marked on our foreheads.
A special adult faith enrichment series during Lent is THE MASS. This six week, video based series will be on Sunday evenings right after 5p.m. Mass in the Parish Center. I know your faith will deepen and your participation at Mass will be enhanced by this series. Plan now to attend, and read more about it in this bulletin.
Have a blessed week,
